Hello from The Dayes of East Texas

We are David and Kathy Daye from Nacogdoches, a pretty little college town tucked into the Pineywoods of East Texas. The above photo is our driveway. We are surrounded by acres of trees and creeks, and have all sorts of wildlife visitors. The goal of our page is to find long lost friends, or hope they find us, and perhaps make some new ones on the way. David grew up in Weslaco, Texas, and I am Kathy (formerly Kathy Farmer) and lived in many places in Texas and New Mexico. David served in the Navy aboard the USS Marias, AO57, during 1971-72, and has worked for an oil company, and natural gas pipeline company for the last 33 years or so. Our family includes a daughter Karen, who has a boat captain husband Pete, an eleven year old son Trey, and a six year old little girl Maddie. We also have a son Eric, who finally came back to Texas after being away for seven years, six of those in the Navy.
I have an artist brother Joe David Farmer. He paints and also designs and builds custom furniture and beautiful mesquite doors. Amy, who has the stamina to live with an artist, and their sweetheart black lab Hazel, complete his family. Lots of his work is shown in the gallery Nuevo Santander, in McAllen, TX.
David's brother Howard and his wife Glenda live on the South Texas coast, where he works as a boat captain. She has finally retired from teaching, and is exploring other avenues. Their daughter Kelly is a teacher also, and their son Travis is planning to be a ship captain.
My Mom is in great health and still looks after her "little old people". David's Mom's health isn't as good as we wish, and they live at opposite ends of the state, mine in the Panhandle, David's in the Rio Grande Valley, but both lead full happy lives.
We love to travel in our motorhome, also known as "David's Folly", but don't get away nearly often enough. We have an unusual cat named Lucky. Lucky because David found him at our back door where he had been abandoned at birth. He was wet and cold, but still alive. David took him in, cut the cord, warmed him up and bonded with him. David was NEVER a cat person. Unusual because as pets go, he is very large, and very mean to most everyone, even though brought up by hand with a bottle. (When we had him de-clawed, the vet wanted to know why we didn't have a few teeth removed too!) It took 3 men to give him his last shots. I'll devote a page to him for his story.
We hope you enjoy your visit, come again soon and often! Please sign my latest guest book at the bottom of this page. My last one was lost do to operator error. (Me, the nut behind the wheel)
There are links at the bottom of this page, to various other pages shown as links in the text of this page, plus a few more, including one for Karl Henize, a cousin of David's who was a Challenger Astronaut a couple of flights before it's tragic end. He was a fascinating man who died while climbing Mount Everest, just the way he would have wanted to go.
Also there is a link to The Gallery Nuevo Santander, it's wonderful.
